I'm studying Barre and the basic movements on this book has been helpful. The way the author presents the movement is precise and easy to understand. The step by step instructions, photos and videos make it possible to learn and do ballet at any age.
This is exactly what it is....Basic. This is a good place to start for beginners. Photos are clear and explanations as well.
Although I’m not a dancer, from the detailed explanations I was easily able to grasp each stretch and exercise. Plenty of pictures to guide you. I consider myself to be fairly fit and a regular at the gym. This workout had me using completely different muscles than I’m used to and I’ll be incorporating into my routine from now on. Long and lean, all the way!
Love the book--easy to follow and understand
I had tried ballet exercises years ago and decided to give it another go. Was looking for something that would be limited to very simple, basic ballet moves. Nothing too daunting or complicated. This is it. Have only been using it for a few days but enough to know its enjoyable, achievable and helping tone my core, legs and hips. The moves require a great deal of balance which requires strength. It's that simple - and that challenging. But not overwhelming. Just enough of a challenge to make it fun and worthwhile. The only drawback is the addition is not quite as user friendly as a paper publication might be (easier to go back and forth when reviewing specific instruction or demonstration). But maybe that's just me. Anyway, very pleased with the content.
The cover piqued my curiosity - I have a lot of experience dancing and teaching professionally. I was actually pleasantly surprised with the quality of the book in regards to the range of exercises, and the detail in which they are described. Some ballet books I've seen tend to "skim over" the basics and expect people to be performing advanced moves in an unsafe manner. This book focuses on fundamental movements performed correctly, which I know from experience is a better and safer way of exercising.
I think this book is great. I used to take ballet lessons and found that I was very fit. That's a delightful thing to find out after all those lessons. Now that I'm older I find that some exercise devotees exhort one to routines that are hurtful to this bod. Ballet is careful and gentle as shown by the dancer/author of the nice little book. It could happen again that this reviewer is again fit with lean muscle. Sure would feel better... would chase arthritis away, muscle cramps, improve mood and such as that. Good book, great idea. Buy it and use the book to save yourself.
